About Bio-diesel - the technical
stuff
This page gives basic technical information about the form of bio-fuel
that we no longer make.
Bio-power now makes MWVF (Modified Waste Vegetable Fat) which is created
by a different process.
Common name: Bio-diesel (or simply biodiesel) or Ester of Glycerol
Chemical name : Fatty Acid Methyl Ester
Chemical Formula: C14 - C24 Methyl Ester C19 H36 O2
Chemical Family : CAS No 67784-80-9
Boiling point : > 400 deg F
Flash Point : 321 deg F PMCC
Vapour pressure : < 5mm Hg @ 72 deg F
Solubility in water : Not soluable
Apperance : light to dark yellow, clear liquid with a light musty odour
Fire Hazard :
Treat as an oil fire,
Use water spray, dry
chemical, foam or Carbon dioxide.
Reactivity : Stable, but avoid strong oxidizing agents
Emergency First Aid proceedures :
Ingestion : Rinse with water, contact a doctor if necessary
Eyes : Rinse with water, contact
a doctor if necessary
Skin : Wash with soap and water.
May cause irritation to very sensitive skins
